Colonial Pomacocha Archaeological Project / Proyecto Arqueológico de Pomacocha Colonial
Due to the effort and contributions of nearly 50 people, we successfully inaugurated the first rural library in the region of Ayacucho, Peru! The original goal was 80 books, but thanks to the discounts of 6-12 percent given by most of the bookstores after I explained that these books were to be donated to a rural high school as well as two donations of nearly 50 books, we were able to stock the library with 190 books! In the next four photos, you can see the books.
Early in the morning of the 23rd, we traveled to Pomacocha with Baldor Eusebio, an archaeology major at the Universidad Nacional San Cristobal de Huamanga (UNSCH) and native of Pomacocha. We unloaded the 5 boxes of books inside the high school complex, part of which is the colonial obraje, or textile workshop, of Pomacocha.
We then unloaded the bookshelves and cleaned them off.
